In our society where extroverted behaviour is slightly favoured over introverted traits, it may be easy for you to overlook the talent and potential in your introverted employees.
It may feel like a challenge to identify talents in your introverted employees when they are more soft-spoken and reserved.
But once you realise how much potential are within these quiet individuals, you would wish that you unleashed their potential sooner!
Here are some tips that you may use to recognise and nurture the talents of your employees:
1. Encourage your introverted employees to speak up
As introverts tend to think before they speak, they might need some time to process their thoughts before sharing their ideas.
Their silence do not always indicate that they have nothing to say, but perhaps they are still thinking about how to articulate their ideas the best way possible.
Once you start encouraging them to speak up when they are comfortable, they will become more confident to share in larger group meetings.
Do also remember to give them some time to think before asking for their opinions or comments.
An introvert may shy away from expressing themselves when they are not yet ready to share.
Let them carefully think through and process their thoughts and you will soon realise that the ideas that are within their minds can actually brilliant!
2. Offer introverted employees a chance to upgrade
Encourage your introverted employees and offer them a chance to upgrade themselves with certain skill training.
By doing so, it gives them the chance to equip themselves with skills that can help them become better communicators within the workplace.
Networking and Public Speaking courses are skills that will boost their confidence when it comes to speaking and interacting with others.
Getting them to take English proficiency tests will allow them to feel more confident and comfortable speaking up once they know that their ability to communicate in English is quantified and verified.

In an article by Josh Bersin, a Global Industry Analyst, mentioned that he and LinkedIn conducted a large scale survey in which 2,400 professionals responded.
This survey asked questions relating to what gives them the feeling of satisfaction at work.
The results showed that “employees who spend time at work learning are 47% less likely to be stressed, 39% more likely to feel productive and successful, 23% more ready to take on additional responsibilities, and 21% more likely to feel confident and happy”.
So give your introverted employees the chance to upgrade themselves and you will soon reap the rewards of the opportunity you had given them!
3. Give positive feedback instead of negative criticism
This applies to all your employees but especially your introverted employees.
As introverts tend to overthink certain words and situations, the words that you use might leave a lasting impact on them.
Constructive comments and feedback can help your employees understand where they are lacking and how they can improve.
On the other hand, negative criticism will only cause tension between the relationship between you and your employees.
Take some time to think about how you may be offering feedback to your introverted employees.
With proper communication, your introverted employee will appreciate the feedback and comments that they receive and improve themselves.
